1. Bilicrystal, a real innovation
Bilicrystal is a complete and modular system for intensive phototherapy. The Bilicrystal allows the treatment of severe icterus of newborns in a very short time and permits to avoid the stressful and traumatising exchange transfusion.
The innovation of this system lies in the fact that a whole new source of light has been developed, in which the wavelength is comprised between 420 and 650 nanometres. Thus, it excludes the whole harmful infrared and ultraviolet waves. Simply said, one can say that Bilicrystal only uses the visible spectrum of the solar light. The tubes have an estimated life of about 3.000 hours.
Figure 1 illustrates de spectrum of this light. Horizontally you can find the wave length in nanometres and vertically is the intensity of the light.
This light has been created by a German company that amongst others worked for NASA. This partnership allowed testing to be done outside of our atmosphere so that they could be observed and studied under the most neutral environment.
